folks, if you have important work in a remote git repo, why do you not have a local mirror always up-to-date? GitHub banning IP addesses sucks, but backups are backups.
I’m not happy with GitHub on this. But seeing people say they’ve lost all their work seems odd in a system like git.
I mean, using GitHub as the sole repository of your work could obviously lead to something like this happening, but even I tend to remove local project repos when I’m not actively developing them. Especially large ones. But I will definitely be rethinking this.
As a former IT guy, I agree, backups are important. But, as a developer and open source advocate, it’s awful that GitHub would do that. They’ve pushed hard for all of us to adopt their platform, then arbitrarily decide that no, you can’t access your own code anymore.
