New EPA Mercury Rule Omits Conflicting Data (washingtonpost.com)

New EPA Mercury Rule Omits Conflicting Data (washingtonpost.com)So as the President and his henchmen argue the sanctity of life, the facts of Bush’s law in TX about persons on life support not being able to pay for their treatment being removed, depsite families wishes, I find this article at the Washington Post. The kicker, for me is this

because the cost to industry already far exceeded the public health payoff.

So potentially, my life is not valuable enough in terms of corporate costs, however there’s some screwed up sanctity of life for some woman who hasn’t been able to put a glass to her mouth and drink, and wouldn’t know it if Bush himself shot her up with mercury directly?
To not even acknowledge the study, after funding it, is obviously a ploy to hide the real benefits of stricter mercury controls. Not to mention the shear volume it would speak to the global community.

Could Tom DeLay Have Asked for a Better Diversion

With reports from the Washington Post talking about the political ramifications of debating the Shiavo case, to the point of singling out Sen. Nelson (D) of FL, you can be sure that Tom DeLay is quite pleased to be the talking head in front of this issue, if for no other reason than to detract from the hot water that he seems to be avoiding in the mainstream media. I mean, as sad a story that it is, the Atlanta killings, the missing, and now found dead young girl in FL, and the Schiavo case, the CNNs and MSNBCs of the world haven’t had to resort to reporting hard news. And that’s not even taking into account the baseball hearings, the Michael Jackson trial, and the Scott Peterson sentencing. I wonder how many young reporters are hired by the cable news agencies, thinking they are going to be the next Woodward or Bernstein, only to be relegated to gathering background on the neighbor of Scott Peterson?

I am thinking Tom DeLay should quickly become public enemy number one. His reckless quest for the conservative right wing agenda is quickly eroding any confidence in our current leadership.

Schiavo Case

I’d probably be remiss not to comment on this, as it’s in my backyard, and seems to be a social hot point. I certainly wouldn’t want to put my family and loved ones through a similar situation. At the same time, I wouldn’t just arbitrarily cut off food and water to my own loved ones. I found this great blog that gives some details from the case from the beginning, and it answers a lot of questions. From what I understand what’s been stated in court, I trust the 5 judges that have decided what is best, and what the intentions were.

This is not to say this is going away anytime soon, nor will cases like this fade off into the background as technology advances.

The New York Times > Washington > From DeLay’s Colleagues, Strong, if Wary, Support

The New York Times > Washington > From DeLay’s Colleagues, Strong, if Wary, SupportHow long can this guy keep dodging bullets? Even his side is calling them “brush fires”, have they not heard the saying, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

But I’m sure the powers that be on the other side of the aisle will know when they’ve used up Delay, and will cast him aside to some high paying corporate job, and find some other puppet to manipulate the system.
